Menu for the Citi – Gourmet Flavours @ Kangan :

We reached to Kangan yesterday in evening at around 8. Ambiance of Kangan is good with dimmer lighting, which creates a cozier, most intimate feel. Soft music playing in background and a open kitchen with round glass window.
A preset menu was offered to us. So according to the menu in starters they had four different types of kebabs, two veg kebabs and 2 non-veg one. Per person 1 starter is allowed to order (one unlimited starter). We were two people so we thought of sharing two different starters so ordered Peshawari Murgh Tikka and Ajawin Fish Tikka. Meanwhile the starters were about to arrive they provided some side options to have like rolled papad, green and tamarind chutney and their signature garlic masala naan strips.

Peshawari Murgh Tikka – This was pretty decent murgh tikka. Grilled perfectly and marination was done beautifully to the chicken pieces. Chicken itself was very tender and juicy which was the best part. Even if it was unlimited I barely had 3 tikkas as those were so big in size and were very rich. I liked this starter.

Ajawin Fish Tikka – Basa fish marinated with grounded spices and major flavour of ajwain. Fish was very soft. Chef Sabad came in asking if I liked the Fish tikka, I responded saying that I liked it but for me it should have been little bit more grilled. Chef happily accepted my feedback and withing few minutes came up with one more batch of Ajwaini fish tikka (This time it was Salmon), oh wow!! This was brillent, amazingly cooked salmon tikka with perfect hit of spices.

In main course again we had option to choose 1 main course from Paneer Tikka Makhani and Butter Chicken, of course our choice was butter chicken and along with we had Lahori Sabza, Daal Kangan with assorted bread.

Butter Chicken – A bit on sweeter side (which butter chicken has to be) but was done perfectly. Gravy was brownish yellow in color topped with heavy cream and had tender chicken pieces. Along with garlic butter naan this butter chicken was a hit. I loved it thoroughly.

Lahori Sabza – I am not a big fan of mix vegetables but this turned out to be quite nice dish. Having American sweet corn, peas, carrot, french beans, potato, bell peppers cooked in creamy gravy. Surprisingly I would rate this dish as equivalent as Butter Chicken. 🙂

Daal Kangan – I have been told that this is kangan’s specialty dish. Daal Kangan is nothing but a daal makhni. Slowly cooked black with hint of cumin, onion and tomatoes. lentils This was really good. Very creamy and melt in mouth texture, daal was cooked perfectly. This went really well with plain steamed rice.

After main course it was time for our most favorite food – The Dessert.
As per the menu in this particular menu they have Kulfi Falooda but as per Chef Sadab’s recommendation we went for Chef’s signature dessert – ‘Shahi Tukda’

Shahi Tukda – Deep fried bread slice topped with rabadi, condensed milk, clarified butter, dryfruits. Drizzled with honey. This heavenly piece was covered with edible silver vark and as a cherry on top there was half cut plum. Trust me, this was the best shahi tukda I ever had. Amazing!!
