INDEPENDENCE BREWING COMPANY, Pune : Review

FoodProwl team had the very first tasting of the year 2018 at “INDEPENDENCE BREWING COMPANY”. This place is huge hit, trust me. They are very good at their craft beers that’s for sure but the food here is equally amazing. Every time you go there, be assured that there will be at least 8 craft beers on tap and they always experiment with new flavors.

#Beers

Talking about beers, I had Hefeweizen, Blueberry pie (Interesting!), Belgian Wit and Ixcacao. All of them were amazing. Hefeweizen is all time favorite and love that refreshing flavors like banana and vanilla and a little spiced aftertaste. Ixcacao was a stout brewed with coco and bourbon vanilla and had bittersweet taste. Belgian Wit had silky smooth finish with a little sour taste. Blueberry Pie had fresh fruity taste and was good for a change.

#Starters

It was all about Tandoor starters at tasting. And each one of them were absolutely lip smacking and were perfect. We first started off with couple of bar nibbles – House made fries and Corn Chaat (Perfect chakna!). The home fries were huge cuts of potato and triple coated deep fried ones tasted amazing with the harissa sauce which was spicy and addictive and jalapeno mayo dip. Corn chaat too was very nice where they mixed roasted peanuts, corn kernels and chopped onion and tomato and sprinkled with some chaat masala.

Lasooni Murgh Tikka, was cooked to perfection and it was marinated in garlic paste and finished with some brushing of clarified butter and garlic. This tasted heavenly. Peshawari Tangadi Kebab, were creamy chicken drumsticks marinated with cheese, yellow chilly paste, spices and saffron. Saffron flavor was very light though.

Fish Amritsari Tikka, was made with ‘Betki’ fish marinated with red chilly paste and cooked beautifully. It literally melted in mouth in seconds. Sarsonwale Jhinga, fresh and juicy prawns marinated with mustard paste and grilled to perfection. But I felt, it should had more of mustard flavor to it to shine on. Murgh Hariyali Tikka, minty flavored succulent boneless chicken pieces were too tasty. Tandoori Lamb Chops, oh man! these were brilliant. Very meaty lamb chops which were marinated beautifully with red chilly paste and grilled. The meat was falling of bones and was very very tender.

Veg Assorted Tandoori Platter, after all this meaty affair we tasted the veg platter too. Which was okayish. It had veg seekh kebab, achari gobi, bharwan aloo and hariyali paneer tikka, out of which I liked bharwan aloo which was quite good with sweet plus spicy taste to it and it was topped with cheese. Veg seekhs were dry though.

To cut down that meaty and heavy eating, in between we had Mediterranean salad which was awesome. I loved the dressing of it it was sour and sweet and the salad in whole was very nice with huge portion actually.

#Mains

Independence Barbequed Beef Burger, Asian Inspired Pork Sizzler, Tenderloin Bulgogi.

Just had a bite of each item, and all of them were good. The pork sizzler was having pork shoulder cooked in Asian spices and chilly and served along with sticky rice and bok choy. Tenderloin Bulgogi had grilled beef shreds with soya, sesame, onion and served along with sticky rice topped with fried egg and vegetables. Independence Barbequed Beef Burger was huge and served along with home fries and slaw.

#Desserts

All the desserts which are there in the menu are in house preparations. All the desserts which were served to us were mind blowing. Starting with Lemon-orange Tart, was lemon and orange cream filled, crispy biscuit crusted pie. It was quite a big one and tasted sweet and citrucy. Apple Pie, a thin crust pastry which was light and crispy filled with apples and dash of cinnamon and nutmeg served along with vanilla ice cream. Chocolate Souffle, a Chef special dessert which was bowl of happiness. A light and airy dark chocolate souffle filled with goodness and served along with ice cream. Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate, this I loved the most out of all. It was divine! Smooth as silk chocolate with crispy crust and those kosher salt granules on top of it were giving salty notes to this dessert, which was fabulous.

In Summary, it was an amazing experience and I am definitely going back for more of awesome food and beers. And special shout out to the host and dost Husein Upletawala for inviting and hosting us.

Cheers!!
